Availability Expectations

To create exceptional guest experiences, we need our team available when our guests visit us most. Consistent availability during these peak times is an essential part of every role at Walls of Clay.

Our greatest staffing needs include:

  • Friday closing shifts
  • Saturdays (all day)
  • Sundays (all day)
  • Thursday evening workshops (occasional)
  • School breaks, including Thanksgiving, Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer Break

Position Summary

As a Team Member, your primary responsibility is to create memorable experiences for every guest who walks through our doors. You are the heart of the Walls of Clay experience, welcoming guests, sharing your enthusiasm for creativity, and helping people of all ages feel confident as they create.

As a Team Member, you’ll learn each of our creative mediums, build confidence in serving guests, and become an important part of a team that values kindness, initiative, and continuous learning. While you are not expected to independently operate the studio, you are expected to take ownership of your responsibilities, support your teammates, and contribute to a welcoming, organized, and guest-focused environment.

Primary Responsibilities

Customer Experience

  • Welcome every guest and confidently explain the creative process.
  • Guide guests through pottery, glass fusing, candles, stoneware, handprints, and custom work while continuing to build your knowledge and confidence.
  • Lead birthday parties and assist with workshops and group events after completing the required training.
  • Answer phones professionally and assist guests with questions, reservations, and general studio information.
  • Build genuine connections with guests by floating the studio, anticipating their needs, and creating memorable experiences.
  • Recommend upcoming workshops, events, parties, and new products during the visit, checkout, and pottery pickup.

Studio Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming studio throughout your shift.
  • Restock supplies, organize workstations, and complete assigned cleaning and studio tasks.
  • Follow studio procedures for daily operations, safety, and equipment use.
  • Assist with unloading shipments, organizing inventory, and disposing of packaging materials as trained.
  • Maintain cash handling and POS accuracy.
  • Complete DMC, Daily Activity Sheet, and operational checklists.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This is an active, customer-facing position. While performing the essential functions of the role, employees may be required to:

  • Stand, walk, and move throughout the studio for most of a shift, which may last approximately 4 to 6.5 hours.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, reach, stretch, grasp, carry, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally moving items weighing up to 50 pounds (glaze buckets, wood pallets).
  • Occasionally use an approved step stool or small ladder to retrieve or store supplies.
  • Communicate effectively with guests and team members in a busy customer-facing environment.
  • Visually inspect pottery, glass, tools, labels, customer orders, and the studio environment with sufficient accuracy to perform the role safely.
  • Work around pottery, clay, glass, glazes, cleaning products, kilns, Dremel tools, drills, and other studio equipment.
  • Work primarily indoors at a moderate noise level, with occasional outdoor customer assistance.
  • Work in or near a kiln room where temperatures may be elevated.
